2015-2016 A Year In Review by Dr. Lisa Battaglino, Dean, College of Education and Allied Studies

The Professional Development School partnerships are the most important set of activities conducted through the Bridgewater State University College of Education and Allied Studies.  This is labor intensive work that involves hundreds of people over the course of each year.  In Brockton our partner schools include the East Middle School, Huntington Elementary School, Davis School, Baker School, Brockton High School, and newest on the list, the Raymond School.  In Taunton, the Mulcahey School, in New Bedford, the Pacheco School and in Sandwich, the 100 Acre Woods Preschool have also proved dedicated and innovative collaborators.  Monthly meetings at the public school site result in a plethora of exciting and creative approaches to enhancing education at both the college and the school.  As a result over the past academic year more than 500 children from the schools listed above have visited the BSU campus with the goal of visualizing themselves as future college students.  In addition, BSU courses are taught on site in 5 of the schools offering real-life settings for college students to learn their craft.  Scientists from BSU are selected by the Huntington School staff each month, theatre and music performances are created with children by BSU faculty at the Davis School, science instruction is provided by BSU faculty at the Baker School, accreditation activities are addressed at both BSU and the public schools, special education and TESOL lessons are implemented and ongoing discussions enhance the ability for all involved to meaningfully improve service to children.   The Bridgewater State University College of Education and Allied Studies PDS partnerships provide a vehicle for enhancing education in the Southeastern region of Massachusetts and BSU is forever grateful for the privilege of allowing students, faculty and administrators to act as a team with esteemed public school experts.
