Fall 2024 Activities

The College of Education and Health Sciences celebrated Universal Children's Day with the
second grade students from the Central Elementary School.

The second grade students had an exciting morning at BSU. They had a wonderful time with author Paul Reynolds as he read Full Steam Ahead  written by his twin brother Peter Reynolds and they discussed how you can say something in so many different ways—by painting, by helping a friend, and by planting flowers. Susan Verde, author of I Am We joined the conversation through Zoom. She read her book to the children as they watched on the big screen.  We were also extremely fortunate to have Dr. Sarah McQuarrie's music education students write a song to go with the theme of the day. The students loved the song so much they began to chant "Sing it Again"!

The children then split up into groups and worked with the BSU education faculty and students who created activities for the children to do centered around the Global Goals.

In preparation for the day, the teachers at the Central School worked with the children to talk about the Global Goals and what they can do in their community and around the world to help make it a better and cleaner place. Classes worked on projects they displayed the day of the event.

The FootBridge Program
July 9-19, 2024

The Footbridge Program, a partnership with Brockton Public Schools, took place July 9-19th this year. The rising 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students participated in a variety of STEAM courses and activities throughout their time at the two-week camp. BSU professors teamed up with Brockton teachers to provide a hands-on experience full on inquiry and fun.

Dr. McQuarrie's students have collaborated with this event since its inception in 2016!  Fifth graders also did theme-related learning activities with CEHS elementary education students. It was a wonderful day!
