Ms. Kim McCoy from the Center for the Advancement of Science Education Enhances the Science Curriculum at the Arnone School During COVID
Ms. McCoy has been instrumental in helping our students and teachers engage in meaningful science content during these challenging times. She was always creating a resource and learning experience that aligned to the standards we were currently working on and providing students with materials to ensure an exciting hands-on activity. Kim offered suggestions on how to adapt if students were unable to pick up materials which allowed more students to participate. Her lessons were engaging and accessible not only for students but also teachers and families whether students were in person or remote. I felt she was flexible in her scheduling, collaboration was easy, and I feel she truly values the partnership we have created. Feedback from teachers and students has been positive, the children loved showing their new learning!
I can't thank her enough for her tireless efforts and collaboration with the Arnone community this year. We are excited to continue to work with her along with others from BSU to grow students' thinking and curiosity and of course their love of science!

Baker School visits BSU to Learn about
the Gardens and Greenhouse The students from the Baker School visited BSU to learn about gardens and how to create a healthy garden bed. The Baker School's Garden Club will be planting their beds in the fall and received a lot of expert advice. The students also stopped by BSU's greenhouse and received a tour from Mr. John Roucharz Each semester BSU Elementary students in Nancy Witherell’s ELED 330 go to Galligan Elementary School in Taunton, MA to practice teaching reading with book buddies. Knowing the importance of outside reading, the college students create a motivational incentive reading bulletin board. The board also has to teach content information. As the students collect more reading minutes, there are stops on the board that are informational. The board encourages wide reading outside of school, which is important, as research has shown that wide reading improves vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. The elementary students “clock” their outside reading time and once the class hits 1.000 minutes the class, through BSU students’ instruction and preparation, create an incentive reward that themes with the board. The following pictures show motivational bulletin boards from the Spring 17 semester.
