What is a professional development school

Picture
The goal of the BSU Professional Development School Initiative is to create a continuous cycle of preservice and inservice educator professional development based upon the College of Education and Allied Studies' Growth of the Professional Educator Model. In order to build successful learning communities in their classrooms, preservice teachers must learn to collaborate with each other and with their future colleagues to practice effectively in order to further student learning.  Therefore, each Professional Development school will include early field experience teacher candidates (i.e. prepractica students), full practicum student teachers (5 days a week), supervising practitioners (cooperating teachers), and embedded program supervisor (university faculty supervisor), teachers leaders and a school liaison (the principal or his/her designee).  We base our model on the concept that teachers learn from each other, and beginning teachers learn  in supportive environments with other beginning and experienced teachers.
